Dollar Tree bucket
Once I got rolling with the fabric scraps and Stiffy (from my previous post) I could not stop. In addition to finding the cardboard box I also found three little buckets purchased at the Dollar Tree this summer. I decided to attack them too. They had handles but I ripped the handle off of this one with pliers. The great thing about Dollar Tree quality buckets is that even I can rip the handle off. I used the same fabric scraps on all three buckets, but I love the trim I used on this first bucket the most. The second bucket I filled with goodies from Feastivities (www.feastivitiesinc.com) and sent to our new first grade teacher. She deserves a treat after surviving the first week of school.
The third bucket I have not finished yet, but it is going to be a Halloween bucket. Hopefully I will finish it between now and October 31st.
Simply Black and White

This cardboard box has been hanging around in my cabinet for awhile now. I came across it this week while I was cleaning and I decided to get to work. First, I covered the box in fabric scraps using Stiffy. Then I covered the top in flat marbles, flowers, hearts, various words, beads and whatever I had on hand. The teacup and saucer in the middle were left over from a broken tea set I painted. This teacup was the only survivor! The lid of the box actually comes off and I am storing my tea bags in it for now. The box is sitting on one of my black and white cake stands (which by the way looks great with candy corn charms for Halloween).8/25/08
Flower Canvases
I just love how these canvases turned out. I actually started to make flower brooches and ended up with these. The stem is silk ribbon, the leaves are freshwater pearl buttons, the hearts are shrinky dinks. Yes shrinky dinks. The boys and I had a shrinky dink day last week. I think I enjoyed it more than they did. There are actually clear shrinky dinks too, but they are hard to see. They say hope, joy, and love. I stamped the letters. The flowers are fabric scraps I sewed together and the middle flower has small turquoise beads in the center and the other two have covered button centers. I left space at the top in case someone wants them personalized. These would be so cute in a girl's nursery using scraps of fabric that coordinate.8/15/08
floral handbags

I think I am almost through with my floral handbag phase. For those of you who know me I have to get these things out of my system. I have really been wanting to sew lately. My mother is incredible with her sewing machine. She makes slip covers, window treatments, pillows etc... Anyway, I went to my parent's house last weekend and used her sewing machine. We had so much fun making these handbags, embellished onsies , T-shirts and floral pins. Most of them are going to be donated to my church's Lord's Acre. Hopefully I will get some pictures posted of some more of our sewing masterpieces.
I think I feel a jewelry phase coming on next. I want to get my Etsy store up and running again before Christmas.

Pink and Brown

I am getting so many requests for pink and brown baby nurseries. I really liked the way this plate turned out. It is very similar to the one on my website but I used brown pin stripes instead of green and five flowers instead of one. The cross above would look sweet in a pink and brown nursery as well. I love getting new ideas from you all. Keep them coming.Picture Frames
Aren't those two of the cutest soccer players you have ever seen?
I love the scarecrow charm on this frame.
What a great picture frame for your annual pumpkin patch picture.
I just finished up these picture frames. The football frame is for my nephew's room and the others will end up at Chiffoniers. I love the scarecrow charm on the "Pumpkins" frame so I gave you a close-up. I am hoping to make frames for pictures with Santa too. Fragile
Fall Preview

I am busy getting my fall pieces ready to take up to Chiffoniers at the beginning of September. Here is a small preview. I only have four candy corns wreaths and once they're gone they're gone. I love the candy corns that are on my mantel. I have a dozen or so of those. The pumpkin plates are great too. I have painted a verse on this one, but they can be personalized too. I can't wait until fall!

Most important meal of the day

The boys and I had a great time making breakfast last week. I saw this idea in Parenting magazine. The boys used a cookie cutter to cut a heart in the middle of a slice of bread. They each scrambed their own egg. Then I put the bread in the skillet and poured the egg in the heart whole. Meanwhile, they also used the cookie cutter to cut a heart-shaped slice of cheese for the top. Yummy! Needless to say, I think they enjoyed this more than than the typical ziploc of cereal I throw them as we run out the door! LOLExtreme Makeover
Too Blessed to be Stressed
I just made these little wooden blocks out of a 2 by 4 that was hanging around in our garage. You could hang it or sit it somewhere. They are now at Chiffoniers and Feastivities. As I was making them I couldn't help but sing "Count your blessings, Name them one by one, Count your Blessings, See what God has done!!!!!!" That is one of my favorite hymns and we simply can't count high enough here at the Simons' house.
